Monika Francikova is the president and head designer of Canadian label Monikova. Born in the Czech Republic, she cultivated a love for design at an early age while observing her mother create handcrafted designs. Her first foray into design materialized after experimenting with her grandmother's antique singer to create a kimono fashioned from hand-embroidered linen. At the age of 14 she apprenticed at a local tailors shop to formally learn the craft.
Prior to moving to Canada, Monika specialized in women's tailoring at the SOUO College in Pardubice, Czech Republic. She continued her education at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto, where her talents were instantly noticed. She was named one of the top ten young designers of Canada and was selected to participate in the Bell Celebrity Gala in 2006. Her ambition for excellence led her to study under highly trained artisans at Stratford where she further refined her tailoring skills.
Monika's unique upbringing directly inspires her designs, integrating the romanticism and craftsmanship of her youth with the sophistication of her new found home. Using luxurious fabrics, her designs evoke an innovative elegance that employ exquisite tailoring and fit. Monikova creates unique and timeless pieces that are for the confident modern lady.
